Halim Hong & Quek (“HHQ”) was recently invited to participate in a series of investment promotion events held in Xiamen and Sanming, China, where the firm shared key legal and practical considerations for investing in Malaysia’s manufacturing sector, supporting Chinese businesses seeking to expand into the ASEAN market and capture emerging regional opportunities.

On 13 May 2026, HHQ took part in the Xiamen-Malaysia Industrial Real Estate Roadshow held in Xiamen, China. The event was jointly organised by Knight Frank Malaysia and the Xiamen Science City Chamber of Commerce, with the support of the Malaysia Investment Development Authority (MIDA) Guangzhou Office and the Guangzhou Xiamen Chamber of Commerce. It attracted numerous businesses and investors seeking opportunities to expand into overseas markets. Representatives from several Malaysian industrial park developers, including EcoWorld Development Group Berhad, Gamuda Berhad, Sime Darby Property Berhad, Sunway Property Berhad and IJM Land Berhad, were also in attendance, engaging with businesses from across China and exploring potential areas for collaboration. The event focused on key topics such as ASEAN investment trends, Malaysia’s industrial development, tax planning and market entry strategies, providing businesses interested in establishing a presence in Southeast Asia with valuable market insights and practical guidance.

During the trip, the HHQ team was also invited to attend a roundtable session jointly organised by UOB and ZGC International Holding Limited in Sanming on 15 May 2026, where they engaged with local manufacturing enterprises on the legal practicalities, risk management considerations and compliance issues relating to investments into Malaysia. Kelvin Chee provided practical and targeted insights on common compliance misconceptions and implementation challenges frequently encountered by companies in the course of cross-border investments. HHQ Senior Associate Yap Wen Hui also participated in the Sanming session by addressing key tax considerations and issues relevant to Chinese investments into Malaysia..
